EVO-STIK's Workington AFC discuss new stadium plans

EVO-STIK League Workington could soon be sharing a brand new stadium with their local rugby club after meeting with local politicians to discuss potential options for a joint project to put the area firmly on the sporting map.

A brand new state-of-the-art facility could host major events such as the Rugby League World Cup in 2021 and the EVO-STIK League Premier Division club's officials have confirmed that they are now waiting to take the next steps after making a joint approach to Allerdale Borough Council with Workington Town Rugby Football League Club.

The talks on building a sustainable future and better facilities for both clubs were first made public at Allerdale's Civic Dinner at the weekend. According to a statement released by officials at Borough Park on Monday, they are said to be at an early stage with potential sites and designs yet to be agreed upon but will "match and exceed the expectations of supporters".

A statement read: “Discussions are at a very early stage but the positivity has left us excited at what can be achieved. There are many decisions to be made and we are entering discussions with an open mind but will communicate and engage to make this a fully collaborative process.
