FA Cup: It's in the stars - Liverpool's Stevie G's name is on trophy

For anyone who doesn't believe it - after two strikes from Steven Gerrard saw Liverpool overcome a resolute AFC Wimbledon - it's in the stars - his name is on this season's FA Cup.

Ever since he announced he is leaving Anfield at the end of this season the football gods are working in his favour.

Get this - the FA Cup Final - if Liverpool are to get there would be his last game for the club (assuming he is available and picked - inconceivable he wouldn't be if he is fit) and what a way to go out - with a trophy. The Premier League dream is beyond the Reds and although they are still in the Carling Cup and Europa League the finals of both- even if Liverpool get there are before the FA Cup. The Europa League Final is only 3 days before the FA Cup final -  It will be played at the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland on 27 May 2015.

Even so - neither - unlike the FA Cup fall on Stevie G's birthday - which - you've guessed it - is May 30th.

Gerrard, despite being told by his boss Brendan Rodgers that he needs to pace himself - has only missed a handful of games and the brace against Wimbledon was his second on the spin after he scored twice from the spot against Leicester. Despite their supposed woes Liverpool have now lost just once in 12 games in all competitions.

There is always a story in the FA Cup and if Liverpool do lift the trophy, in Steven Gerrard's last game for Liverpool - on his birthday - don't say we didn't tell you beforehand! If it was a script you wouldn't believe it could happen but it well might.

The draw for round four was kind enough with Liverpool at home to Championship side Bolton and as Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal observed - the quickest route to a trophy is winning the FA Cup! Liverpool remain 5th favourites at 9/1 after Monday night's draw kept all the big teams apart.
