Farsley Celtic liquidated as David Stockdale takes over phoenix club

Former goalkeeper David Stockdale has taken over the phoenix club of Farsley Celtic.

The club were due to participate in the Northern Counties East League but had to withdraw after they were unable to make the pitch at their stadium playable.

Stockdale and his family became involved in the club earlier in the year, and he and his wife Katie released a statement saying "We want FC Farsley to be the beating heart of community sports and activity in Farsley."

Mrs Stockdale will take the role of FC Farsley chair, with the club continuing to play home games at The Citadel, previously known as Throstle Nest.

As part of the takeover, Farsley Celtic will be liquidated "to give football in Farsley the best chance of future success", the Farsley FC statement added.

Stockdale had a long career as a goalkeeper and made over 500 appearances playing for the likes of Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham.
