FIFA 16 to have female player on the front cover for the first time

EA Sports' FIFA 16 video game will feature a female footballer on the front cover for the first time in the game's history.

Alex Morgan recently helped the USA to win the Women's World Cup in Canada this summer by beating Japan.

The tournament has been widely praised for raising the profile of the women's game across the world, win England's historic run to the semi-finals peaking the public's interest in the UK.

The game, which was first released in 1993, will also feature playable women's teams for the first time, with 12 national sides including the USA, Canada, and England.

"It is an incredible honour to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA Sports Fifa," said Morgan.

"I know people all over the world play this game and I'm really excited that Fifa 2016 is putting such an important spotlight on women's soccer."
