Football to pay tribute to former Watford manager Graham Taylor

Football is to pay tribute to Graham Taylor at fixtures that will take place this weekend. All matches held in the English Football League will hold a minutes applause prior to the match.

Taylor, who managed the likes of Watford, Wolves, Aston Villa, Lincoln City and England, died on Thursday, aged 72.

The club where he spent 15 years managing, Watford, will commemorate Taylor before their Premier League match against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The EFL have said that they will give clubs the option of letting their players wear black armbands during fixtures this weekend.

The Premier League have said that they will leave the decision of whether to pay tribute to Taylor to individual clubs. Premier League executive chairman, Richard Scudamore ,said that the "insight, wit and self-deprecating humour" of Taylor would be missed.

"You will struggle to find a more decent individual in football - one who cared passionately about all levels and aspects of the English game," he said.
