Businessman who tried to buy Sheffield Wednesday admits theft

Geoff Sheard, who headed up a bid to buy Championship Club Sheffield Wednesday in 2008 admitted theft at Preston Magistrates Court this week. He will be sentenced next month.

The former businessman stole several thousand pounds worth of mobile phones whilst working for Parcelforce.

Sheard, now 52, tried to buy the Yorkshire club in 2008 but the bid failed when it was revealed that he was using the services of a convicted money launderer from the USA - called Richard Frank Downes.
