Former Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur Goalkeeper Part of Consortium in Takeover Talks at Shrewsbury Town

Former United States international goalkeeper Brad Friedel is part of an American consortium, led by Miami-based businessman Scott Davidson, seeking to acquire League Two club Shrewsbury Town.

According to BBC Shropshire, the consortium is fronted by prospective owner Davidson, a 58-year-old American who built his wealth in property. He has been involved in British football since July 2021, when he became a director of ambitious Scottish League Two side The Spartans.

It was confirmed on Monday that Davidson had received clearance from the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator to proceed, having passed the owners’ and directors’ test.

Negotiations between the parties remain ongoing. If completed, the takeover would bring chairman Roland Wycherley’s three-decade tenure to an end. The deal is expected to see both Davidson and Friedel join the Shrewsbury Town board and could be finalised within the next few weeks.
