Former Chelsea and West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo takes over at Schalke

Roberto Di Matteo, the manager who helped Chelsea to Champions League glory two years ago, has taken over at German outfit Schalke.

He replaces Jens Keller, who parted ways with the club after an indifferent start in the Bundesliga this season, having won only twice in seven games.

Di Matteo has not been with a club since he was sacked by Chelsea two years ago, just a few months after he guided them to a Champions League and FA Cup double.

He took over from the sacked Andre Villas-Boas midway through the 2011/12 season, but found himself in the same position not too long after. He was sacked during the 2012/13 season after a poor start to the campaign.

He will get the chance to face Chelsea, where he also spent six years as a player, when they make the trip to Germany to face Schalke in the Champions League group stages.
