Former Liverpool boss Ian Ayre quits in shock move

When former Liverpool CEO Ian Ayre quit Merseyside two months ago for a new job in Germany as managing director of 1860 Munich it was a surprise to many in the game. Even more surprising though is the fact that Ayre has now quit the German club.

Ayre moved to Germany in April but resigned just as 1860 Munich, one of the great names of German football during the 1960s, were relegated to the third tier.

“Unfortunately, during my short eight-week tenure I have found an organisation in which the shareholders are not aligned in a common interest, nor have a shared vision for the future of the club,” Ayre said in a statement.

“I feel extremely disappointed to have to step away from this great opportunity…

“I truly hope that the shareholders of this club find a solution that allows its fans the opportunity to see this club back where it belongs at the top of German football.”

Interestingly Ayre's other former Club, Huddersfield Town were promoted to the Premier League for the first time only last week.
