Former Newcastle, Tottenham and England star Paul Gascoigne set to play for Bournemouth Sunday League side

Former England international Paul Gascoigne has signed for a Fourth Tier Sunday League team in Bournemouth.

The 47 year old, who won the hearts of the nation for his famous 'Gazza's Tears' at the World Cup in 1990, has not played for a club since he left Boston United in 2004.

His signing came about after he got a lift from Abbey FC boss Chris Foster, a taxi driver, who took him to a shop to buy cigarettes.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Foster said,

"I gave him the cigarettes and pulled out the signing-on form at the same time. He signed it there and then,"

"I was chuffed to bits and ran to the car as fast as I could. I was skipping like a 14-year-old."

The Bournemouth FA has confirmed to BBC Sport that Gascoigne has registered and could play immediately.

Gascoigne has struggled with alcohol in recent years and has several times checked himself into rehab, with his former teammates even paying for his treatment.
