Former West Brom, Chelsea and Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka signs for Mumbai City in inaugural Indian Super League
Former Premier League star Nicolas Anelka has become the latest big name to head over to India for the inaugural Indian Super League, joining Mumbai City.
Anelka played for a number of clubs in the Premier League, first signing for Arsenal, as well as having spells at Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton, Chelsea, and finally West Brom.
His spell at West Brom last season ended controversially after he was sacked in March over the 'quenelle gesture' scandal.
He has now made the move to India and tweeted, "I'm pleased to join Mumbai City FC and very excited to join Indian Super League," .
"Talented international players & top Indian talent will make matches thrilling affairs," added the Frenchman, whose former clubs also include Chelsea and Manchester City."
The 10-week ISL tournament will get underway in October with the aim of increasing the popularity of football in India.
Notable names from the English game who will be in the league include former Arsenal star Freddie ljungberg and former Sunderland striker Michael Chopra.
