Having turned down Villa David Moyes in shock link with old club Everton
A week ago it seemed almost certain that Frank De Boer would be the next Everton boss and club officials have talked to the Dutch boss along with ex Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
It has now emerged that the club intend to interview no less than nine candidates for the vacant position and former boss David Moyes, who managed the Liverpool club for 11 years before leaving in 2013, is on that list.
They are due to sound out Europa League-winning Sevilla boss Unai Emery, who is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
Ronald Koeman of Southampton remains first choice to succeed Roberto Martinez - who replaced Moyes in 2013 - but the Toffees fear they will struggle to persuade him to leave St Mary’s.
Moyes, who was in charge at Goodison from 2002 until leaving for Manchester United three years ago, is likely to be a popular choice with chairman Bill Kenwright.
However, the Toffees' new major shareholder Farhad Moshiri is believed to want a bigger and different name, which could make Moyes an outsider.
The 53-year-old Scot turned down relegated Aston Villa on Monday after they made an approach for the second time. He has expressed fears over the structure and direction of the fallen Midlands giants.
De Boer, who stepped down as Ajax coach on the morning of the day Everton sacked Roberto Martinez earlier this month, appears to be the favourite to get the job.
He shares the same agent as fellow Dutchman Koeman, who has privately told the Toffees he is ready to see out the final year of his contract .
