He was appointed boss at Sixfields on Tuesday, 21 months after leaving the Brewers at the top of League One

The ex-Chelsea striker was appointed as Northampton's new manager on Tuesday, replacing the first managerial casualty of the season in Justin Edinburgh - and he is hoping to emulate the success he achieved with the Brewers at Sixfields.

The new chapter in Hasselbaink's career begins on Saturday, with the visit of newly-promoted Doncaster Rovers the first hurdle for the Northampton boss to clear.

Hasselbaink guided Burton to League Two success after taking over from Gary Rowett back in 2014, and departed for Queens Park Rangers in December 2015 with the Brewers top of League One, and on course for a Championship debut.

Putting the QPR experinece behind him the ex Chelsea man is in confident mood.

After his appointment as the Cobblers' new boss, the ex-Atletico Madrid man reckons that he has moved to a club that has the potential to surpass the Brewers' current standing.

"Look where Burton are now," Hasselbaink told the Daily Express.

"They are well established in the Championship and this club, if they could change places with Burton, would snap their hands off.

"It has the potential to be a bigger Burton, easily.

"With respect, this is a bigger club than Burton - more supporters and a little further on than Burton were.

"I’ll bring a lot of energy. We might lose some matches but we must do things with joy."

Time will tell. His opening fixture couldn't be tougher though against an inform Donny.
