League One: Doncaster announce former Preston and Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson as new boss

League One strugglers Doncaster Rovers have appointed Darren Ferguson as their new manager.

Ferguson replaces Paul Dickov, who was sacked on September 8th after picking up only six points from his first six games of the season.

The son of Manchester United legend Sir Alex, Darren has been without a club since he left Peterborough for a second time in February.

He managed to lead Peterborough to the Championship via back to back promotions between 2007-2009,  which was followed by a fairly disappointing spell as Preston North End boss in 2010, before returning to the Posh the following year.

Speaking of his appointment, Ferguson said, "We have a good set of players here and the aim is to get promotion out of the division. Speculation is over and this is a fresh start."

"I'm delighted to be here. My vision matched the owners and there was no doubt in my mind."

Interim boss Rob Jones won one of his six matches in charge to leave Doncaster above the League One drop zone on goal difference only.
