League One: Gillingham fan arrested after accusations of racial abuse against a Peterborough player



A Gillingham fan has been arrested after being accused of racially abusing an opposition player.

The incident occurred during Gillingham's 2-1 win over Peterborough on Tuesday evening, with a statement on the club's website saying 'stewards were made aware of an allegation of racial abuse towards a visiting player."

"After a preliminary investigation a person has been detained and police are conducting a formal investigation." The statement continued.

"Gillingham Football Club will not tolerate racial abuse and will take whatever action that is appropriate at the conclusion of the investigation with regard to any persons behaving in this fashion at our ground."

"Anyone found guilty will be banned for life from Priestfield Stadium."


The Gills' win puts them 10th in the league, two points off the play-off places.
