League One: Scunthorpe United sack manager Russ Wilcox

League One outfit Scunthorpe have terminated the contract of their manager Russ Wilcox after a poor start to the season.

Wilcox, as well as assistant John Schofield, were sacked following a dismal start to the season, with their last game being a 2-1 defeat to Notts County in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday evening.

A brief statement on the club's official website read, "The club would like to place on record their thanks to Russ and John for their efforts, but in particular to Russ for leading the Iron into League One."

"Andy Dawson will take charge of Saturday's game at Gillingham, assisted by Tony Daws."

Wilcox took charge of the club last November, and managed to go unbeaten in his first 28 games at the club, which subsequently led them to promotion back to League One.

But they have struggled to find a foothold in the league, with only 2 league wins so far this season, with only Crewe below them in the league.
