The petition also comes in the same week that a deadline to repay a £10.25m loan from the local Council passed on Thursday, but current chairman David Cardoza is confident all the issues will be resolved, including finding a new buyer for the club.

Speaking on the club's official website, Cardoza said,  "Meetings have and are continuing this week and we are very close to reaching an agreement on the sale of the club to one of a number of interested parties and we believe we will have some definite news very soon."

Cardoza also revealed that they are in discussions with Northampton Borough Council about repayment of their loan, "Talks have been ongoing with the Council... We are putting proposals to Northampton Borough Council regarding the repayment of the loan which we hope will prove satisfactory to them and that process is ongoing as we speak."

The London based consortium who were supposed to take over the club had been interested since June, but pulled out due to "a number of complications surrounding the proposed acquisition."

On the pitch, the Cobblers don't seem to be letting matters in the boardroom affect them, with the club currently eighth, only outside the play-offs on goal difference.
