League Two: York City appoint former Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara as new boss

League Two side York City have appointed former Dundee United and Partick Thistle manager Jackie McNamara as their new manager.

The Scot takes on his first managerial role outside his native land, with former Scotland teammate Simon Donnelly joining him as his assistant at Bootham Crescent.

He replaces Russ Wilcox, who was sacked last week after failing to win in nine games. First Team coach Richard Cresswell took charge of the Minstermen at the weekend as they lost 1-0 to Crawley.

McNamara began his managerial career at Partick Thistle in 2011, before leaving to take charge of Dundee United in 2013.

He spent two years at the club before he was sacked in September.

York have confirmed there will be a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon at which McNamara will be officially unveiled.
