Liverpool pair Jordan Ibe and Joe Gomez picked in new look England U21s squad


Gareth Southgate has announced his squad for England U21s' upcoming fixtures, with plenty of new faces among those selected.

Southgate named a 23-man squad to take on USA’s U23 Olympic hopefuls in Preston on Thursday 3 September, before starting their Euro U21 Qualifying campaign in Norway on Monday 7 September.

The most notable of the new faces are Liverpool pair Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez, who have both featured in all three Premier League matches for the club so far. Spurs midfielder Dele Alli is also selected after scoring his first Premier League goal at the weekend.

Calum Chambers, Eric Dier and Matt Targett have all been capped at this level in defence, with Wolverhampton Wanderers duo Kortney Hause and Dominic Iorfa making the step-up from last season’s U20s.

The likes of James Ward-Prowse, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben-Loftus-Cheek and Jake Forster-Caskey have all featured for Southgate in midfield previously.
