National League to propose 6 team play off

National League clubs will be asked to vote on a change to the play off structure at the Annual General Meeting on 10 June.

The proposals will mean that the play offs will feature six clubs rather than four. Under the current structure the four clubs finishing 2nd - 5th play two-legged semi-finals before a final.

The proposals will means that in all three of the National League's divisions will have the teams that finish 2nd - 7th in the play offs. Under the new proposals it is understood that all play off matches will take place over one leg with the teams in 2nd and 3rd progressing automatically to the semi final stage at their home ground and the teams that finish in 4th and 5th would host 7th and 6th respectively in a new "qualifying round".

At the AGM, clubs can vote to amend the proposals, decline them or accept them.

In this years play off Forest Green were promoted after beating Tranmere Rovers 3-1 at Wembley.
