New Sheffield Wednesday owners sack manager

Stuart Gray who took charge at Hillsborough on a caretaker basis in November 2013 following the departure of Dave Jones has himself been shown the door.

The 55-year-old was appointed permanently the following January and guided the club to Championship safety in his debut season.

A 13th place finish in the Championship last term followed, their highest in six years, although Wednesday only managed to win five of their 23 home games.

His departure comes a matter of months after Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri completed a takeover of the club.
