Norwich City sack Alex Neil

Norwich City have sacked Alex Neil after being manager for two years in charge at the club.

The decision comes a day before the club face Blackburn in the Championship and the club have said that Alan Irvine will take charge of the team for that match.

Neil led the club to promotion to the Premier League via the play offs at Wembley but was unable to keep the side in the division and was relegated in their first season.

A club statement said "The Board has taken the tough but unanimous decision, believing it is in the best interests of the Club for a new manager to be in place through a crucial summer transfer window and into next season."
