Premier League: Chelsea submit planning application for new stadium at Stamford Bridge site

Premier League champions Chelsea have submitted planning application for a new stadium at Stamford Bridge with an expanded seating capacity.

This application will now be examined by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and if successful the new stadium will include the Stadium seating capacity to expand from 41,600 to 60,000 spectators.

According to a statement on the club's website, the application also promises 'an outstanding view of the stadium from every seat' in an arena 'designed to create an exciting atmosphere'.

The stadium wil also provide direct access to and from Fulham Broadway Station, making travel more efficient

The planning process will last beyond the end of the season; if the application is granted planning permission there will still various other consents needed before work can begin.

With London rivals Tottenham also looking to redevelop their stadium, there has been much discussion about where the two sides will play their football, with national stadium Wembley an option being considered by both sides.
