Palace have been without a manager since the shock departure of Tony Pulis just two days before the start of the season, and have been linked with several managers since.

The initial favourites were former Cardiff manager Malky Mackay and former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood.

Mackay's close relationship with Palace's director of football Ian Moody seemed to be swinging it in his favourite, having worked with him at Cardiff before they were both sacked.

However, revelations about abusive text messages sent between the pair led to the club ruling Mackay out, and Moody resigned from his role at the club.

With Tim Sherwood ruling himself out also, the speculation turned to former West Brom manager Steve Clarke, and Neil Warnock.

Warnock has not managed at a club since he left Leeds United in April last year, and has indicated that he will not return to management in the past.

Both Clarke and Warnock have been interviewed by the club this week, and with Clarke apparently taken out of the running by the club, Warnock is now the nailed on favourite to take the job.

Warnock had a mixed first spell at Selhurst Park. Having taken them from relegation candidates to play off semi-finalists, when they were beaten by Bristol City.

The club's increasing financial difficulties and eventual administration led Warnock to leave the club, insisting he didn't have it in him to steer the club through such a difficult time.

He has since managed at QPR, taking them to the Premier League, and a spell with Leeds United.
