Premier League: Everton boss Roberto Martinez excited by investment from new sharedholder

 

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is pleased with the news that the club will be receiving fresh investment from their new shareholder.

Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri boughht a 49.9% stake in the club, ending a long search by chairman Bill Kenwright who has been seeking new investment for a number of years.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference today ahead of Everton's clash with Aston Villa, Martinez said, "The investment is really good news. I met him and the impression I got is of a gentleman with incredible values."

"He knows the Premier League inside out because he has been involved with another club."

"Sometimes you get businessman who don’t know football but that is not the case here. He has followed this club very closely and he has fallen in love with what Everton means and the heritage and the history."

The 60-year-old billionaire had previously been involved as a share holder at Arsenal, but sold his 15% share to his business associate Alisher Usmanov for around £200m on Friday.

Martinez is hoping he can get his side back into Europe this season, and also has an FA Cup quarter final clash with Chelsea at Goodison Park coming up.

It is believed Moshiri's main task will be to provide more funds for Martinez to use in the transfer market in order to compete with the bigger clubs around them.
