Premier League: Former Newcastle goalkeeper in critical condition after suffering heart attack


 
 

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering cardiac arrest in the Czech Republic.

Srnicek played for Newcastle between 1991 and 1998 as well as returning to the club on loan in 2006. He was well loved among the Magpies fans and worked under the likes of Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish during his time at St James'.

According to information received by his agent Steve Wraith, the 47-year-old collapsed while out jogging in Ostrava on Sunday.

Speaking to the BBC he said, "I spoke to his family in the Czech Republic who said his heart had stopped," 

"He is in a critical condition in hospital and remains unconscious."

As well as Newcastle, he also had spells in England with Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and West Ham.
