Premier League: Newcastle's 4-0 mauling by Southampton could spell the end for Alan Pardew
Newcastle sit bottom of the league after four games, with no wins and only two points.
Apart from facing champions Manchester City on the opening day of the season, they have faced sides that the 'Toon Army' would have been expecting results.
But condeding a last minute equaliser to Crystal Palace at St James Park last time out led to fresh calls for Pardew to be removed from fans who have been increasing the pressure on their manager since the start of the year.
Pardew admitted this week that he is under pressure to perform better, and after this gruelling defeat, he should be feeling the heat.
A brace from Grazianno Pelle in the opening 20 minutes set the tone as Southampton outplayed Newcastle in every department. The visitors did create a few chances towards the end of the first half, but after the break, Jack Cork found the net before Morgan Schneiderlin compounded Pardew's misery.
With owner Mike Ashley reportedly looking to sell the club, Pardew's future could well be in serious doubt no matter how his side perform, but results such as this will certainly not help his cause.
