Premier League: QPR manager Harry Redknapp given the vote of confidence by club owner Tony Fernandes

QPR's owner Tony Fernandes has released a statement backing his under-fire manager Harry Redknapp, and insisting he is the man to keep the club in the Premier League.

The struggling London side suffered another defeat at the weekend, with Manchester United winning 2-0 at Loftus Road.

There had been increased speculation in the build up to the match that if the Hoops lost, that manager Harry Redknapp would be sacked.

But despite a defeat which leaves his side in the relegation places, owner Tony Fernandes has reaffirmed his faith in his manager in a statement on the club's website.

“There’s been a lot of rumours about Harry’s position being under threat, so I thought it was time to end all the speculation, so everyone can focus on the challenge ahead." he said.

“I firmly believe Harry is the best man to get us out of the position we currently find ourselves in."

“He has great experience and having spoken to him at length over the last week or so, he is determined to turn this around and help us maintain our Premier League status."

“This is Harry’s squad of players, so he is the man to move us forward.”

He added: “The performance against Manchester United showed the players are behind him and that they have the stomach for the fight."

“We know we need to improve our away form and Harry, his coaching staff and the squad will be doing all they can to turn around our fortunes on our travels."

“It’s very tight in the table and we will do our best to strengthen where we can to give us the best possible chance."

“The fans have been brilliant all season and all I ask is that they continue to back Harry and the team.”

Redknapp took over from Mark Hughes at the club in November of 2012, but could not save them from relegation that season. He did however manage to get the side straight back up after a 1-0 Play-off final win over Derby last May.

QPR are currently sat in 19th place in the Premier League, and have not picked up a single point away from home this season.
