Premier League: Sunderland players offer to refund fans after 8-0 thrashing at Southampton

Sunderland's players have offered to refund the fans who made the 300 mile trip to Southampton last Saturday for their 8-0 beating.
Sunderland were demolished by the Saints and shot themselves in the foot twice with two own goals on top of the six knocked past them by their opponents.
After the match Sunderland player Vito Manonne, who was in net for the match, stated that the players should reimburse the fans as an apology for their performance.
Around 2,500 Black Cats fans made the eleven hour round trip, from the North East to the South coast, and the club today have confirmed that the players will stump up for the price of every ticket sold.
"Travelling supporters who attended defeat at Southampton offered ticket refunds." a statement on the club's website read.
"Sunderland’s players have today offered to refund supporters the cost of their match tickets, as well as supporting a local charity, following Saturday’s defeat to Southampton."
"Fans who do not wish to claim a personal refund will have the cost of their ticket donated to Sunderland-based children’s charity Grace House, which provides respite services for children and young people throughout the North East region, who have life-shortening conditions for which there is no known cure."
Speaking on behalf of the squad, Sunderland AFC’s captain John O’Shea said: “We win and lose as a team, players, staff and fans, however we wanted to acknowledge and thank the supporters who travelled such a long way to give us their backing and despite everything, stayed with us until the final whistle.”
