Reports suggest Notts County to be sold to American buyers

It seems to get worse for League 2 side Notts County - not only has HM Revenue & Customs  issued a winding-up petition against the club,  owner Ray Trew has  turned down one potential takeover - from local businessman Alan Hardy.

Reports in Nottingham suggest Trew has agreed a deal to sell the club to an American company, but BBC Radio Nottingham claims Trew will also meet another potential buyer, who flies in from China on Tuesday.

Hardy is understood to have made a formal written offer to buy the Magpies, but the agreement with the US company has seemingly scuppered his chances.

Trew announced last month that he was looking to sell the League Two club after his family were subjected to "foul and mindless abuse".

But he is understood to consider Hardy's bid - said to be between £8m and £10m - way short of his valuation.
