Rochdale name 5 year old in matchday squad

Five-year-old Joshua McCormack in the Rochdale squad for their Checkatrade Trophy match at Hartlepool United on Wednesday night.

Joshua, who is a big Rochdale fan, last year was diagnosed with a brain tumour and in September was told by doctors it was terminal.

Joshua will be unable to attend the game at away at Hartlepool on Wednesday but he will have his shirt hung up in the changing room as well as being named as one of the seven substitutes for Rochdale. The shirt will have squad number 55.

"No child should have to go through what Joshua is going through and we, as a club and a group of players, will continue to do whatever we can to support him and his family.

"We hope this one small gesture can bring some light to his family during this difficult time."
