Sepp Blatter clings to power for seven more months as FIFA Presidential elections scheduled for February 2016

FIFA have announced that the election of a new president to replace the outgoing Sepp Blatter will be held on February 26th, 2016.

The decision was taken by FIFA's executive committee on Monday, with candidates from UEFA President Michel Platini to former Brazil great Zico thought to be considering candidacy, and will have to be nominated before October 26.

It means that by the time a new President is elected Blatter will have stayed in power for nearly a year since he first announced he will step down in May.

That announcement came only four days after he was re-elected for a fifth term, but following the arrests of 18 FIFA officials on corruption and bribery charges by US and Swiss officials, he decided to step down, but denied any knowledge of wrong doing under his leadership.
