Sheffield United expected to announce appointment of former Reading and Southampton manager Nigel Adkins
Sheffield United will hold a press conference later today where they are expected to unveil Nigel Adkins as their new manager.
Adkins has been without a club since he was sacked by Championship side Reading in December 2014.
He will replace Nigel Clough, who was sacked at the end of the season after Sheffield were beaten in the League One play-off semi-finals by Swindon, who went on to lose 4-0 in the final to Preston.
Adkins has previous experience getting sides out of the third tier, having twice got Scunthorpe out of the league as well as Southampton, who he then guided to the Premier League the following season.
The Blades will be going into their fifth successive season in League One following their relegation from the Championship in 2011.
Their defeat to Swindon was the third time they had reached the play-offs in four years, and they now have the unenviable record of being the worst club in play-off competition, a record that was previously held by Preston until their Wembley win.
