Sheffield Wednesday File For Administration

Sheffield Wednesday have entered administration following a winding-up petition from HMRC, bringing an end to Dejphon Chansiri’s troubled decade in charge.

A notice was filed with the Insolvency and Companies Court on Friday morning, with Julian Pitts, Kris Wigfield and Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor appointed as joint administrators.

Club staff were briefed on the development, while administrators also met with players ahead of Saturday’s clash against Oxford United at Hillsborough. The Owls now face an automatic 12-point deduction, leaving them 15 points adrift of Championship safety.

The move comes after weeks of intensifying supporter protests and boycotts amid unpaid wages and growing discontent towards Chansiri’s ownership.

BBC Sport has contacted both Sheffield Wednesday and the EFL for comment.

Administration marks the end of a turbulent chapter for the club, which has been beset by financial struggles and multiple EFL sanctions. With the points deduction confirmed, Wednesday’s battle for survival looks increasingly bleak.
