Sheffield Wednesday to face transfer ban

The English Football League (EFL) has confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday will be subject to a transfer fee restriction for a period of three windows following a breach of financial regulations.

The restriction, which will take effect during the current summer transfer window and extend into the Winter 2026 and Summer 2026 windows, comes after the club exceeded 30 days of late payments between 1st July 2024, and 30th June 2025.

In a statement released by the EFL, the club's financial conduct during the specified period was found to be in violation of league rules. As a result, Sheffield Wednesday will now face a restriction on signing players or paying transfer fees for the next three transfer windows.

The club have confirmed their intention to appeal the EFL’s decision.
