Shrewsbury Town Handed EFL Transfer Fee Restriction Over Late Loan Payment

Shrewsbury Town have been placed under an EFL transfer fee restriction following a late payment connected to a loan agreement.

The League Two club will be unable to register players for whom a transfer fee is payable for the remainder of the summer transfer window, which closes on Tuesday, 1 September.

However, Town remain able to sign free agents and loan players throughout the rest of the window.

"The restriction follows a late payment to a club in relation to a loan agreement, which was made outside the timescale required under EFL regulations," said a club statement.

"As soon as the club became aware the payment had not been made as expected, the outstanding amount was settled in full immediately."

Manager Gavin Cowan has added to his squad with several free-agent signings this summer, including defender Arkell Jude-Boyd, striker Josh Davison and midfielders Jack Price and Jay Turner-Cooke.

Shrewsbury also completed the signing of Barrow midfielder Isaac Fletcher last month for an undisclosed fee.
