SkyBet Championship: Cardiff City home in on Leyton Orient boss

As Cardiff's colourful owner, Vincent Tan steps up the search for a new boss the spotlight has fallen on Leyton Orient's Russell Slade.

But he is not the only one in the frame according to the BBC and there are plus signs for West Brom boss Steve Clarke and ex-Norwich chief Chris Hughton as well.

Fans’ favourite, Welshman Tony Pulis and Neil Lennon, the former Celtic manager, are also believed to be in the frame but lower down the pecking order for the Malaysian billionaire.

A sixth option would be for Tan to keep caretaker duo Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon at the helm for the time being, the Cardiff players having rallied around the pair in securing a 2-2 draw with Derby on Saturday.

It is thought Tan will spend the next 24 hours discussing the identity of the new City gent with trusted football aides, although Slade has jumped to the head of the queue after confirming the Bluebirds had made an approach to his club.

The 53-year-old, who has spent his managerial career in the lower divisions, said: “I think they may have requested permission to talk to me, but I’m uncertain. I’m a little bit in the dark.

“It is nice to be associated with such a big club like that. I’m very proud of the fact that they’ve seen the good work that we’ve done at Leyton Orient.”
