Sunderland safe as Newcastle and Norwich relegated
Sunderland beat Everton 3-0 to secure another season of Premier League football. The three points ensure that The Black cats are safe even though Norwich beat Watford.
Norwich will be joined in the Championship by Newcastle United who can no longer catch Sunderland.
Sunderland can go to Watford for the final game knowing the match has no bearing on their survival.
It is a fantastic turnaround for a club that were winless in their first eight games of the season.
But Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has never been relegated and his experience with the likes of Bolton and Blackburn saw him through a difficult season.
Allardyce has said that survival ensures financial stability for the club and the next job is to strengthen the squad with the right players.
