As Newport announce the appointment of John Sheridan as their new manager today, his predecessor Terry Butcher, sacked less than 24 hours before, has joined the quickly growing list of fallen managers.

That list more than doubled this week as as departures at Brentford, Rotherham, Fleetwood and latterly Newport meant that seven of the seventy two managers in the Football League at the start of the season are no longer at their clubs.

Monday brought a Championship double, as two sides struggling at the lower end of the table parted ways with their respective managers.

Rotherham, who battled to survive last season with one game remaining, held a meeting with Steve Evans where both parties agreed to go in a different direction. 

It will have been a tough decision for a club that can thanks Evans for getting them promoted in 2014, and keeping them up.

Brentford's decision not to keep Mark Warburton at the club last summer raised a few eyebrows, and the appointment of Marinus Dijkhuizen as the club moved into a new 'moneyball' approach always had the potential to fail.

Two wins in twelve games was a big enough failure for the powers at be to pull the trigger on the Dutchman, and he has already been replaced by youth coach Lee Carsley, until the end of the season at least.

Former Preston and Burnley player Graham Alexander was relieved of his duties as Fleetwood manager after a heavy defeat on Tuesday night, with his assistant Chris Lucketti now in temporary charge.

In fact, of all four of the clubs who have dismissed their managers, only Rotherham have yet to make any announcement about their next appointment, short term or otherwise.

This weekend's fixtures could throw up even more problems for managers at both ends of all three leagues, and as the pressure intensifies, don't bet against more dismissals come Monday morning.
