UEFA announce that Wembley to host Euro 2020 semi-finals and final

Wembley will host it's first Euro final since England hosted the tournament in 1996 after the selectionn comittee announced it's picks for Euro 2020.

In 2013 UEFA's Executive Committee announced that the Euro 2020 tournament would be hosted between 13 cities across the continent, with 12 of those chosen given a selection of three group matches as well as one knock out match.

With Euro 2016 introducing a new 24 team tournament, as opposed to 16 teams, the increase will allow host cities three group matches and either a last 16 or quarter final match.

The semi finals and the final itself will all be held by the same city/nation. The only two contenders for this slot were England's Wembley Stadium, and Germany's Allianz Arena in Munich.

But in Geneva today the governing body announced that it would England's national stadium that hosts the most prestigious matches of what is set to be a ground breaking tournament, with Germany having to settle for group stage/knock out stage package.

The full selection of host nation/cities is below:

England/London – semi-finals and final

Azerbaijan/Baku – three group games, one quarter-final
Belgium/Brussels – three group games, one round of 16 game
Denmark/Copenhagen – three group games, one round of 16 game

There was also good news for Scotland, who this morning voted against independence from the UK, as they were awarded a group game slot in Glasgow at Hampden Park.

Ireland's Aviva Stadium in Dublin will also host opening stage matches, but Wales' Cardiff bid has not been selected.
