Watford name new stand at Vicarage Road after Sir Elton John


The 'The Sir Elton John Stand' was unveiled before Saturday's game with Wigan.

Sir Elton John had two spells as owner of the club from 1976-87 and 1997-2002 was the special guest.

The singer posed with defender Sebastien Bassong, who uploaded a picture of the pair to his Instagram page with the caption 'What a honour to meet such a legend!! Thanks for the support #eltonjohn #watfordfc #Hornets'.

John also features on the front of the Watford match programme with the quote 'It's in my blood, in my soul, it's a huge part of my life.'

Watford are currently sixth in the Championship and will be overwhelming favourites to take three points from Wigan, who are 23rd and second last in the table.

Sir Elton was also quick tp support under fire Wigan Chairman, Dave Whela. Speaking at the unveiling of the 'The Sir Elton John Stand'  John said: "Dave Whelan has been a great owner for a fantastic football club with wonderful fans over there, and I salute him."
