Why Newcastle can't win the Championship
You have to go back to 2001/02 when Man City won the title for a winning favourite – but by the same token other than Bournemouth no team bigger than 20s has won either. Teams like Derby, Villa and Sheff Weds have to be some value in in a betting market dominated by one team.
There is more money riding on Newcastle than on any other Championship side in history.
Steve Freeth from Bet365 told the Racing Post: 'The wait is over and we're close to getting a glimpse as to whether this monster like gamble is bang on the money.' The Toon have been backed from 5s to 15/8 - but be warned before you lump in.
Derby 6/1 and 8/1 were beaten favourites the last two seasons and the likes of QPR, Bolton, Leicester, West Ham and Middlesbrough have all let favourite backers down in recent seasons.
Joe Ross from Footyinsider.co.uk said: 'The Championship is a minefield - only 6 managers from 24 survived last season - and there is always a chance Raffa Benitez will get a better call despite staying in the North East.
'Newcastle will be hard to beat but there are plenty of other quality sides and the Toon are notoriously bad travellers in London.'
