Women's Euro 2017 to be shown on Channel 4
The rights to show the UEFA’s 2017 Women's European Championship have been won by free-to-air Channel 4.
The deal means that most of the major matches will be shown live on Channel 4 as well as all of England and Scotland matches. The tournament be the first time that Channel 4 have shown a major international football tournament.
Channel 4 beat a bid from the BBC to secure the rights, however, the financial terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
“We’re thrilled to have secured the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euros on Channel 4,” said Stephen Lyle, Channel 4’s commissioning editor for sport. “With Scotland there for the first time and England’s Lionesses at the top of their game, I believe this tournament is going to be one of the sporting highlights of the summer.”
The opening game of the tournament will get hosts the Netherlands take on Norway on Sunday 16th July, which takes place in Utrecht.
