Brighouse Town Seek Step 7 Reset Amid Structural Realignment Plans
Brighouse Town AFC have announced plans to step down the
non-league pyramid and return to amateur football, confirming they have
requested a realignment to Step 7 ahead of next season.
The club is aiming to secure a place in the West Yorkshire
Association Football League, with early discussions described as “very
positive.” Officials have also informed both the Northern Premier League and The
Football Association and are now awaiting guidance on completing the formal
process.
The decision marks a significant turning point for Brighouse
Town, who have competed at Step 4 level in recent years. Club representatives
stressed the move was not taken lightly but is intended to provide a reset for
the senior men’s side and create a platform for sustainable growth.
Brighouse’s rise through the non-league ranks has been
notable. After competing in the West Riding County Amateur League, the club
progressed to the Northern Counties East League Division One before earning
promotion to the Premier Division in 2010. By 2014, they had reached the
Northern Premier League, where they have remained until this season.
Despite those achievements, the club acknowledged increasing
financial pressures, including rising wages, travel, infrastructure, and
administrative costs, alongside the loss of key senior experience, as major
factors behind the strategic rethink.
Off the pitch, structural changes are also underway. Mark
Booth has been appointed Chairperson, supported by Julian Prior as Secretary
and the existing committee. The club confirmed that its junior and women’s
sections will remain unaffected and continue their development.
In a statement, the executive committee said.
“Although this is the end of one era, it is the start of a
new one,” the club said. “We thank our supporters, volunteers, and partners for
their continued backing and hope they will remain with us as we build the next
chapter.”.
