Carlisle United Report £5.1m Loss Following Relegation from EFL
Carlisle United have reported a £5.1m loss for the 2024–25 season, a campaign which ended in relegation from the English Football League.
The accounts represent the first full financial year under the ownership of the Florida-based Piatak family, following their takeover of the club.
On the pitch, it proved to be a difficult season, with Carlisle finishing 23rd in League Two and suffering a second consecutive relegation, dropping into the National League. The club also went through three head coaches during the campaign.
"This has been a challenging year, but important foundations have been laid," said the club's board in a statement.
"We've invested in our people, facilities, hospitality, commercial growth and community. We are fully committed to building a strong future for Carlisle United."
The £5.1m loss marks a significant increase from the £2.8m deficit recorded the previous season. Contributing factors included an additional £1m spent on player wages and more than £500,000 on transfer fees.
Revenue also declined sharply, with turnover falling by 20% from £8.3m to £6.6m.
Despite the losses, the club’s ownership group has taken steps to strengthen its financial position, converting a £12m loan into equity as part of a long-term investment strategy.
Off the pitch, Carlisle have invested heavily in upgrading facilities at Brunton Park, with the aim of boosting future commercial income.
Chairman Tom Piatak added: "We believe in Carlisle United, its supporters, and its future, and we will continue to invest to help the club move forward in a sustainable and responsible way."
