Chesterfield announce relaunch of junior and academy teams

Chesterfield have announced a relaunch of their academy set-up, under a new structure.

It was announced back in February that the club’s academy would cease to operate from 30th June this year, with the withdrawal of Football League funding coming into play. The Spireites, relegated from the EFL in 2018, have now confirmed that the youth system at the club will be restructured, explaining it as follows:

“With the recent announcement of a change in our academy at the end of the season due to a lack of funding, we are pleased to confirm that the organisation will be relaunched as Chesterfield FC Junior & Youth Academy.

“Organised by Chesterfield FC Community Trust, this will continue to benefit local children in Chesterfield and surrounding areas, working in partnership with grassroots clubs and the Trust’s ETC programme.

“As we are no longer under the EFL EPPP programme, this provides the opportunity to play against not only teams from National League clubs but also Premier League teams. We feel that this provides an equally competitive set of fixtures in the Junior Premier League as well as fixtures against Category 1, 2 & 3 Football League opposition.”
