Coventry City Complete Landmark Purchase of Coventry Building Society Arena

Coventry City have completed the purchase of the Coventry Building Society Arena, securing full ownership of their home for the first time in the club’s history.

The Championship side confirmed the deal with Frasers Group, describing it as a “pivotal moment” that will provide long-term stability after years of uncertainty.

Club owner and chairman Doug King said the move was more than just a financial transaction: “This is more than a transaction. It is a statement of ambition and belief in Coventry. Owning the CBS Arena safeguards the club not only for the present but for future generations.”

The announcement comes as the arena marks its 20th anniversary. Since leaving Highfield Road in 2005, supporters have endured a turbulent period involving four stadium owners, four different home grounds, three club owners and countless protests.

King praised the club’s fanbase, saying their “unwavering loyalty” had carried Coventry through years of upheaval. He added that full ownership of the stadium — including its casino and hotel — would allow the club to invest in facilities, enhance the matchday experience and strengthen community ties.

While the fee paid has not been disclosed, Frasers Group last bought the stadium in 2022 for £17m, shortly after King’s own £25m bid was rejected as too late.

The deal means Coventry City’s future at the CBS Arena is now secure, with their previous tenancy agreement due to expire in 2028.

Reflecting on the move, King said he was optimistic about the season ahead: “I feel good about this football season, and the head coach and his team are working real well.”
