Midstream Lighting becomes world’s first manufacturer to achieve “FIH Quality Programme" Partner status

Midstream Lighting, a world leader in LED lighting technology, has been appointed as a Certified Lighting Provider to hockey clubs and venues under the FIH Quality Programme – becoming the first manufacturer to achieve this prestigious status.

The FIH (International Hockey Federation) Quality Programme is an internationally recognised scheme. It is designed to ensure a level of excellence across key areas such as surfaces, field equipment, sports equipment, facilities, and lighting. As part of the programme, the FIH works with industry and research professionals to develop specific standards and quality guidelines.

“We are proud to have been appointed as an FIH Quality Programme partner,” says James Brunt, Midstream Lighting’s Director for Sports. “Hockey is a sport that we are deeply invested in, and we’re honoured to be joining this prestigious global network. The FIH Quality Programme is reflective of our own commitment to delivering the highest standards in everything that we do, and we look forward to showcasing that dedication to FIH members over the coming years.”

Focusing specifically on outdoor hockey fields, the FIH Quality Programme for Sports Lighting establishes minimum standards around the performance, quality, and durability of sports lighting systems. All FIH Approved lighting systems must adhere to strict guidelines, including ISO 9001 certification for manufacturing operations, and a minimum 10-year warranty on products. To date, Midstream Lighting is the only manufacturer to achieve this status.

Through the Quality Programme, the FIH provides guidance on lighting requirements across five key categories. These range from training and non-televised club, national, and international competitions, through to a number of dedicated scenarios in which lighting can be used to enable 4K televised  and slow-motion footage of top hockey matches.

“Sports lighting is vital to hockey, enabling increased hours of training and play as well as helping to ensure the best possible in-person and broadcast viewing experiences,” says Jon Wyatt, Sport Director at FIH. “At the same time, lighting represents a major investment for clubs and venues, and they need to be confident in the decisions that they make. The FIH Quality Programme seeks to provide them with that assurance, and we’re delighted to welcome Midstream Lighting onboard.”

Midstream’s appointment as an FIH Quality Programme member adds to a growing list of hockey-related initiatives for the company. The company was named as the Official Lighting Partner to England and GB Hockey in 2020, and also sponsors Great Britain Elite Development Programme member and England Under-18s hockey star Kitty Chapple.
