Morecambe FC Suspended from The National League
The National League has suspended Morecambe FC from all league competitions with immediate effect, citing serious concerns over the club’s ability to meet its financial obligations for the 2025–26 season.
The compliance decision was taken by the League’s Club Compliance and Licensing Committee earlier today during a special meeting convened to assess the struggling club’s situation.
As part of the sanctions, Morecambe have also been excluded from the National League Cup for the upcoming campaign. The club remains under financial embargo ahead of the new season.
The Committee is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday 20 August to assess whether outstanding issues have been resolved and to determine whether Morecambe can retain its National League membership.
This suspension deals a severe blow to Morecambe’s preparations for their first campaign outside the EFL since 2007. Despite multiple attempts to secure new owners, unresolved takeover negotiations, unpaid wages, and looming deadlines have put the club’s status in jeopardy. Earlier this week the League had given owner Jason Whittingham until 12:00 noon on 28 July to meet specific financial criteria, with subsequent review set for the afternoon of the same day.
