Morecambe FC Takeover Nears Completion According to Club Owner
Morecambe FC is on the brink of new ownership, with a takeover deal said to be nearing completion, according to a club statement released today (17th July).
A consortium of unnamed individuals with “genuine football experience” is now finalising the acquisition of Bond Group’s controlling interest in the club amid growing concerns over unpaid wages and looming financial deadlines.
Despite weeks of speculation surrounding the identity of the buyers, the club clarified that no one from the purchasing group has been publicly named and that recent media guesses have been inaccurate. The mystery consortium has reportedly moved quickly, working closely with legal teams to conduct due diligence and negotiate contracts under considerable time pressure.
The club’s statement confirmed that the incoming owners have the necessary funds to settle outstanding payments and restore financial stability. “We are working to conclude the transaction as quickly as possible,” it read, noting that a further update will follow soon.
The announcement comes during a turbulent period for the Shrimps, with former chairman Rod Taylor and ex-board member James Wakefield both expressing fears this week that the club could fold if ownership uncertainties persist. Staff wages for June remain only partially paid, and administration was briefly considered earlier in July before owner Jason Whittingham pivoted to the current deal.
The 2025–26 National League campaign is set to begin on 9 August, but preparations have been overshadowed by the off-field chaos. The new ownership, if finalised swiftly, could offer a lifeline for the club and its supporters, who have endured weeks of silence and uncertainty about its future.
